President John Dramani Mahama participated in Liberia’s 178th Independence Day celebrations held on July 26, 2025, at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion in Monrovia. The ceremony, attended by several West African heads of state and government representatives, was a significant moment of reflection and national reconciliation.
Liberia used the occasion to acknowledge the contributions of ECOWAS member states to the ECOMOG peacekeeping mission, which was instrumental in ending the country’s civil conflict. President Mahama received a national honour on behalf of Ghana, recognising the pivotal role of the Ghana Armed Forces in Liberia’s peace process.
In his Independence Day address, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai emphasized unity, healing, and technological transformation as pathways to Liberia’s development.
Centered on the theme “One People, One Destiny: Healing the Past and Building the Future”, the celebrations called for national reflection, reconciliation, and the construction of a cohesive national identity.
