MALDIVES: As part of the 60th Independence Day commemorations, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held a ceremonial engagement with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS), underscoring the strategic and symbolic importance of the nation’s security institutions in the preservation of state sovereignty.
Upon arrival, the President was received with official honours by key government and security figures, including Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen. A formal guard of honour was presented in recognition of the Head of State’s role as Commander-in-Chief.
During the ceremony, President Muizzu conferred a series of national honours—including Presidential Medals, Long Service Medals, and Distinguished Service Medals—on deserving officers of the MNDF and MPS, acknowledging their exemplary service and enduring dedication.
In his address, the President commended the unwavering commitment of the security forces in safeguarding the Maldives’ independence and sovereignty. He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to provide institutional and logistical support to both the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, characterising their function as foundational to national stability and peace.
Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen also addressed the gathering, reiterating the commitment of their respective institutions to upholding the principles of national defence and public order.
The ceremony concluded with a collective reaffirmation by members of the MNDF and MPS to uphold their duty to the nation. The event was attended by senior government officials, military and police leadership, and a broad assembly of personnel, reflecting the enduring respect accorded to the Maldives’ security services in national life.
