“This lapse of the Police is unacceptable and unprofessional.”
Some Concerned Citizens of Ablekuma North are calling on IGP George Akuffo Dampare to up his game in the constituency by ensuring that the Electoral Commission (EC) has security to perform its work.
According to them at its last briefing on collating the Ablekuma North results, the Electoral Commission passionately appealed to IGP Dampare to provide the requisite security to complete the collation, but the appeal fell on death ears.
“Sad to say,” the members said, “At the last attempt to do so, the premises of the EC were attacked by hoodlums and thugs of the NDC, destroying property of the commission, thereby preventing the EC from performing its constitutionally mandated duty.”
What baffles the people is that the police service could not make a single arrest during that unfortunate incident though their personnel were present at the premises.
“This lapse of the Police is unacceptable and unprofessional,” the Ablekuma North residents bemoaned in a chat with the media.
To them, the lack of a declared winner of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election is causing increased tensions in the constituency.
“We do not want to believe you are culpable in the machinations to derail the naming of the winner of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election,” they said.
Meanwhile, the EC has per a press release called on the Government to engage the Ghana Police Service to ensure that the Commission is provided adequate security to enable it to carry out its functions in a safe and secure environment.
