“It is also an insult to the chiefs and people of the Region who chose to recognize and celebrate these efforts.”
The Western Region NPP (New Patriotic Party) has voiced strong condemnation regarding the shocking destruction of the statue dedicated to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Takoradi.
“This act not only disrespects our leadership but also undermines the values we hold dear as a community,” the Party noted.
According to the Party, the statue, built by local chiefs and residents, symbolized gratitude for his transformative development projects that improved the region’s infrastructure and quality of life.
The NPP listed many health facilities and other infrastructure and developmental projects undertaken by the Akufo-Addo government in the Region.
The Party made it clear that “The demolition of the statue is not just an attack on the memory of the only President of the 4th Republic who demonstrated a strong commitment to the development of the Western Region; it is also an insult to the chiefs and people of the Region who chose to recognize and celebrate these efforts.”

We unequivocally condemn this barbaric act and call on the Ghana Police Service to launch an immediate investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. We urge them to ensure that justice is served swiftly so that such acts of vandalism and lawlessness are deterred in the future.
We also call on civil society organizations, the National Peace Council, and religious leaders to speak out against this act of lawlessness. We therefore request the current administration to publicly denounce this act and support efforts to bring the culprits to book.
The NPP remains confident in the ability of our security agencies to uphold the rule of law and protect the symbols that represent progress, development, and unity in our nation. We will continue to advocate for respect for our leaders and the preservation of our collective achievements as a nation.
