
The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has initiated criminal proceedings against Mr. Solomon Asamoah, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), and Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Chairperson of the GIIF Board, in relation to matters concerning the Accra Sky Train project.
Per the statement of Offence, the two are charged with “Conspiracy to commit a crime, to wit – wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic, contrary to Section 23(1) and Section 179A(3)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The Particulars of the Offence state that Solomon Asamoah and Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi “In February 2019, in Accra and within the jurisdiction of this Court, did agree to act together with a common purpose to willfully cause financial loss in the sum of Two million United States of America dollors (US$ 2,000,000.00) to the Republic by causing, without authorization, the said amount belonging to the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) and the Republic to be paid to the Africa Investor Holdings Limited purpoetedly for the building of an urban sky train systems in Accra which system was never built.”
