The Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on March 20, 2025, issued a directive banning members from discussing issues detrimental to the Party’s welfare on media platforms.
Some members view the directive as timely and appropriate, while others believe it restricts their freedom of speech.
Below is a glimpse into the diverse responses from some members as they react to the Party’s directive:

To: The Leadership of the New Patriotic Party
Dear Party Leadership,
I write to express my concerns regarding the recent directives issued to party members, particularly the communication signed by the General Secretary urging members to refrain from discussions that may negatively impact the party and create disunity.
While I understand the intent behind these guidelines, it is crucial to recognize that open dialogue is essential for our party’s healing and growth. The recent comments and interviews by various members, including hon Adjoa Sarfo, represent a desire to address grievances and clear misunderstandings.
Silencing these voices may hinder our rebuilding process rather than aid it.
Moreover, it is noteworthy that the General Secretary himself has engaged in media discussions about the party and the recent electoral outcome after our defeat. This inconsistency raises questions about the fairness and application of the directives. Justice within our ranks must be equitable, allowing every member the opportunity to address allegations and concerns openly.
This period presents us with an opportunity to reflect on our past and make necessary corrections. Encouraging dialogue will foster unity and understanding among us, enabling us to move forward more effectively.
I urge the party leadership to reconsider the approach taken in these communiques and allow members to express their views. By doing so, we can work together to resolve issues swiftly and strengthen our party for the future.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Samuel Nana Nyarko Boateng
Concerned Party member

Respect Freedom of Speech: Let Hon. Adwoa Safo Speak Her Truth
I write this statement with a heavy heart but a clear conscience. As a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), I believe it is time we uphold one of the most sacred principles of democracy—freedom of speech—and allow Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo to publicly express her side of the story.
For far too long, Hon. Adwoa Safo has been the subject of harsh public condemnation, largely orchestrated by voices from within her own party. Her reputation, carefully built over years of dedicated service, has been unfairly dismantled without her ever being granted the opportunity to respond in equal measure.
Majority Leader Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, in an interview in 2022, lamented her absence by saying:
“For the past three months, Adwoa has not been engaging me. I have sent her numerous messages, and she has not responded.”
This statement gave the impression that she was unreachable and uncooperative, fueling media backlash and public frustration.
General Secretary Mr. Justin Frimpong Kodua, also commented on her past issues, admitting:
“Yes, issues happened in the past… she came back to apologise to the party and now I can tell you that she is doing her work as Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya.”
Even in this admission of reconciliation, the emphasis on her past “issues” overshadowed her efforts at redemption.
Perhaps most hurtfully, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, who shares a personal and political history with her, went on national platforms to attack her character. He publicly declared:
“I think she is wrong. She should rather apologize to the party. They should stop begging her. I support calls for her removal if she doesn’t come.”
He further added, in frustration:
“Adwoa Safo is in America. She is not my wife, I only have two kids with her… she is an independent person.”
These statements were widely circulated across radio, television, and online platforms, giving many party members and the general public the justification to label her disloyal, arrogant, and ungrateful—without knowing her side of the story. Some members even questioned her integrity and loyalty to the NPP, forgetting her years of contribution and service.
If the media was freely used to tarnish her image, then she must be equally allowed to use the same platform to share her perspective, speak her truth, and heal from the pain these unwarranted attacks have caused. Justice, fairness, and truth demand that she be heard.
Freedom of speech must not be selective. It should not be a privilege reserved only for those in leadership or those with louder voices. Hon. Adwoa Safo is a human being, a mother, a lawyer, a Member of Parliament, and above all—a loyal party member who deserves to be treated with dignity.
I, therefore, call on the leadership of the NPP to honor her right to speak, and to allow her to use the media to address the very platform through which her name was unjustly ridiculed.
Let us show leadership not just in power but in compassion. Let us not silence our own when they are hurting. Let her speak.

PYA ENDORSES NPP’S DECISION TO RESTORE DISCIPLINE IN THE PARTY
The Patriotic Youth Alliance (PYA), a dedicated youth wing committed to upholding the values and integrity of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), fully supports the party’s General Secretary’s bold decision to restore discipline within the party ranks.
As a political organization built on the principles of democracy, respect, and progress, the NPP has always upheld internal discipline as a key pillar of its strength. However, recent developments have threatened the unity and cohesion of our great party. In light of this, we commend the General Secretary Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong for taking decisive measures to reinforce order and maintain the dignity of the party.
The PYA firmly believes that discipline is the foundation of any successful political organization. Without it, the party risks being derailed by internal conflicts, factionalism, and indiscipline, which can undermine the hard work of our forebears and the confidence of the Ghanaian people. We, therefore, urge all party members, especially the youth, to rally behind the leadership and support all necessary actions taken to safeguard the unity and integrity of the NPP.
Furthermore, we call on all well-meaning patriots to prioritize party loyalty and respect for authority. The NPP has a track record of delivering transformational leadership, and we must remain focused on advancing the party’s vision for Ghana. The upcoming elections require a united front, and discipline will be a key factor in securing victory.
The PYA remains committed to working with the leadership of the NPP to strengthen the party, engage the grassroots, and ensure that we remain the party of choice for the Ghanaian people. Let us all embrace discipline, unity, and hard work as we prepare for the tasks ahead.
Signed:
