The Bonakeri Pottery and Farmers Festival was inaugurated in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region on Thursday, March 20, 2025, with Hon.
Hon Catherine Afeku, former Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, was among the dignitaries at the event which has as a theme “Hand of Heritage, the Chronicle of Clay,” and aimed at empowering local women.

Speaking at the occasion, she highlighted the vital role of craftsmanship, especially ceramics, in preserving culture and boosting economic growth, and encouraged women artisans to unite in a cooperative for better funding and business expansion while emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment. Additionally, she urged young women to consider ceramics as a viable and rewarding career path.
The Former Minister urged artisans to use the Internet and social media for digital marketing to expand their reach. She also called on Chiefs to encourage youth to learn traditional crafts from elders to preserve the cultural heritage of the Fantra and Mo people.
Additionally, she praised the Diamonds of Development Foundation-Africa (DDF-A) for its efforts in empowering women through community development initiatives.
