The government is to release feeding funds for 31 days to senior high schools, according to the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS)
The General Secretary of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS), Primus Baro, made it known on radio that by the close of Friday, January 17, 2025, the government would release funds to feed senior high school students for 31 days.
He explained that amount is an emergency intervention by the government following the food shortage faced by the various SHSs nationwide.
Mr. Baro revealed that the government has begun efforts to supply food directly to schools. President John Mahama redirected food supplies, initially meant for drought victims, to schools, with the goods currently stored at Tema Port. However, only 2 out of 18 required food items are available. To address this, the President and Chief of Staff approved emergency funding for 31 days, enabling schools to source food locally.
The CHASS General Secretary, also disclosed that Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, plans to engage education stakeholders in developing a permanent solution to ongoing challenges in senior high schools. He emphasized the need for clear interim measures during the one-month relief period, stressing that school feeding and funding cannot be delayed.
