“Considering the current economic challenges, I anticipate strong opposition from NDC MPs regarding government proposals to adjust or increase Ex-Gratia for the MPs of the 8th Parliament.”
The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, has shared his thoughts on the impending closure of the current Parliament
He is anticipating strong opposition from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament if a proposal for adjustment is presented to the House. As part of its manifesto, the opposition party has stated that it would eliminate the highly unpopular “end-of-term” benefits for members of the executive.
This provision, established under Article 71 of the 1992 Constitution, has faced significant opposition from Ghanaians who feel that the beneficiaries receive numerous favourable conditions of service. Just days before the conclusion of the eighth Parliament, Braimah expressed his expectations on X, previously known as Twitter, based on the current state of the country’s economy.
He wrote, “Considering the current economic challenges, I anticipate strong opposition from NDC MPs regarding government proposals to adjust or increase Ex-Gratia for the MPs of the 8th Parliament.”
