The infection can affect all individuals and is usually spread through inhalation of respiratory particles.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has issued a public health alert concerning acute respiratory virus infections in the Northern Hemisphere.
Acute respiratory infections typically occur in a seasonal pattern, with a higher number of cases in winter months, as observed currently.
According to a press release issued on January 17, 2025, the GHS is taking steps to ensure it is well-prepared to detect and respond quickly to any increase in respiratory pathogens. This initiative collaborates with other agencies and partners and aligns with recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The release said the infection can affect all individuals and is usually spread through inhalation of respiratory particles. Common symptoms include cough, fever, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body ache, and headache.
“The GHS wishes to assure the public that it is taking the necessary steps to safeguard the health of the people in Ghana and will provide regular updates on the situation,” the statement signed by the Director-General of the GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said.
