The vibrant pulse of Ghanaian culture will once again take centre stage in the American Midwest as the Ghana National Council of Chicago, together with its affiliates, prepares to host the 37th Annual GhanaFest. Scheduled as the flagship cultural event of the year, the festival carries the compelling theme, “Connecting Our Community Through Culture and Commerce,” underscoring its enduring mission to unite people through heritage, enterprise, and shared identity.
Since its establishment in 1988, GhanaFest has evolved into a cornerstone celebration for the Ghanaian diaspora, drawing thousands of attendees annually. What began as a modest cultural gathering has blossomed into a large-scale, family-friendly festival that showcases the richness of Ghana’s traditions while fostering economic and social connections within and beyond the community.
This year’s edition promises an immersive experience for all ages. Attendees can explore the bustling Ghana Village, a marketplace teeming with vendors offering everything from fashion and art to health services and business resources. Food lovers will be treated to the “Taste of Ghana,” where authentic dishes, beverages, and desserts highlight the country’s diverse culinary heritage. The revered Parade of Chiefs and Queen Mothers will add a regal touch, celebrating traditional leadership and cultural pride.
The festival will also feature a dynamic lineup of cultural performances, including music, dance, and storytelling that reflect Ghana’s rich artistic tapestry. Special musical guests and live band performances are expected to electrify the atmosphere, while a DJ-led dance session will keep the energy high well into the evening. Families are not left out, with a dedicated Children’s Park offering games, bounce houses, and prizes, alongside youth-centred activities like dance competitions and interactive entertainment.
As the sun sets, the celebration will transition into a lively “Dance Party Under the Stars,” transforming the grounds into a vibrant concert space where culture and modern entertainment seamlessly blend. Organisers say the event is more than just a festival; it is a powerful expression of identity, unity, and the enduring connection between Ghana and its global diaspora.
With anticipation building, the 37th Annual GhanaFest is poised to deliver yet another unforgettable celebration of heritage, connection, and community.
