Enthusiasm and dedication of party agents can be the deciding factor in a closely contested election.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is leading the field in Ghana’s 2024 presidential election, according to the most recent election research conducted by the Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University, Professor Smart Sarpong.
Responses of 99,355 participants from all 276 constituencies in Ghana served as the basis for the study.
Per the study, Dr Bawumia commands a strong lead with 49.1%, while Mahama follows with 45.8%. Independent and other candidates collectively hold 2.3%.
The NPP is expected to maintain its majority in the parliamentary campaign by winning at least 148 seats. According to the study, the NDC has 92 secure seats and the NPP has 128; 56 constituencies are deemed battlegrounds. It is anticipated that neither of the six fierce independent candidates from districts like Sunyani East and La-Dade Kotopong will prevail.
Dr. Bawumia’s strong performance is largely driven by overwhelming support in the Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North East, and Western Regions. Meanwhile, John Mahama leads in Bono East, Greater Accra, Northern, Oti, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Volta, and Western North Regions.
Professor Sarpong, a renowned researcher, is stressing the importance of political parties building on their strengths in key regions and avoiding overconfidence. He believes that dedicated party agents and supporters can make all the difference in securing a landslide victory for their candidates.
By consolidating their gains and employing smart campaign tactics, parties can maximize their chances of success. As Professor Sarpong notes, active party agents and supporters are crucial in securing a decisive victory. Their enthusiasm and dedication can be the deciding factor in a closely contested election.
