“This bold approach challenges outdated gender norms, ensuring broader representation across industries and paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous Ghana.”
The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged women not to feel alone in the fight against breast cancer but together as a people, Ghanaians will conquer the disease.
In his message to women during the Breast Cancer Awareness month of October, Dr Bawumia has this to say:
“As we stand together to fight this disease, I urge all Ghanaian women to prioritize their health and well-being. Let us all support those affected, honour those we’ve lost, and renew our commitment to creating a healthier future for all. Get screened, educate yourself, and encourage others to do the same.
”The NPP Flagbearer who has many women-friendly policies in his 2024 Campaign Manifesto emphasized that “together, we can conquer breast cancer. Early detection saves lives.”
A key cornerstone of his vision is empowering women through comprehensive social welfare initiatives and prioritizing maternal and child health. This bold approach demands robust maternal health programs, enhanced maternity services, and dedicated breastfeeding rooms in public spaces. By implementing these measures, child survival rates will significantly improve, and mothers will receive the support they deserve, fostering a healthier environment for families to thrive.
Moreover, he advocates for the implementation of the Affirmative Action Act, a game-changing legal framework that will ensure gender parity and equitable representation for women in education, government, and the workplace. This visionary leadership will drive transformative change, bridging the gap between policy and practice.
Dr. Bawumia is championing women’s empowerment in Ghana’s key economic sectors, recognizing their pivotal role in driving national growth by focusing on increasing women’s participation in renewable energy; agriculture; and, mining.
According to him by doing so, he not only enhances women’s personal success but also contributes to Ghana’s economic resilience and diversification ¹.
The NPP Flagbearer also aims at pushing to break down gender barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields like land management; forestry; and, manufacturing.
Dr Bawumia believes “this bold approach challenges outdated gender norms, ensuring broader representation across industries and paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous Ghana.”
