The Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association (GNACOFA), representing more than 700,000 cocoa farmers nationwide, firmly condemns the troubling reports regarding what they see as the intentional exclusion of its members from the government’s forthcoming input distribution program.
At a media briefing, the National President of the Association, Mr. Stephenson Anane Boateng, revealed that credible evidence shows extension officers in some districts have been directed to remove farmers affiliated with GNACOFA from beneficiary lists.
According to him, the practice defies Ghanaian law, worsens the plight of farmers, and could spark instability across cocoa regions.
Mr. Anane Boateng called for immediate clarification from the government, urging adherence to constitutional provisions, PNDC Law 81, and historical precedents for fair input distribution.
The GNACOFA President emphasised that smallholder farmers, responsible for over 60% of Ghana’s cocoa output, are being denied critical inputs like fertilizers and seedlings, putting the harvests, incomes, and food security of over 700,000 families at risk.
To ensure that all cocoa farmers benefit from the programme, Anane Boateng urges the government’s intervention without delay.
