“Industrialization thrives on skills development. Without a skilled workforce, Ghana’s industrial sector will struggle to grow.”
As Ghana stands on the brink of transformative change, the need for industrialization has never been more pressing. Dr. Patrick Essien of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) advocates for prioritizing this essential pathway, asserting that it is fundamental to unlocking the nation’s immense potential.
According to him by strategically investing in industrial growth and building robust infrastructure, the country can harness its rich resources and talented workforce to establish a dynamic economy that competes effectively on the global stage.
An expert in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr Essien argues that Ghana, despite its abundant resources, is hindered from becoming an African industrial leader by several key obstacles: inadequate finance, high energy costs, poor logistics, limited innovation, and a significant skills gap. He emphasizes the need for government investment in technical and vocational training to address the skills gap and unlock Ghana’s industrial potential.
“Industrialization thrives on skills development. Without a skilled workforce, Ghana’s industrial sector will struggle to grow,” Dr. Essien emphasized while speaking on the economics of industrialization.
