In a powerful statement, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Justin Kodua, has urged a collective effort to protect journalists from the harmful practices of political intimidation.
Emphasizing the importance of a free press, he advocated for a supportive environment where journalists can operate without fear, ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
“It is time to stand up for the vital role that media plays in our democracy,” he said on March 7, 2025, at a Thanksgiving service and Get-together meeting of the Ashanti Region Ghana Journalist Association (GJA).

The NPP General Secretary also encouraged journalists to prioritize truth in their reporting and to resist financial inducements. He emphasized that ethical journalism is vital for maintaining media integrity and fostering an informed society.
Ashanti Regional GJA President, Kingsley Hope, called for the arrest and prosecution of thugs who attacked journalists at the ARCC during the Council of State election in Kumasi on March 10, 2025. He emphasized that punishing the culprits would deter others from targeting journalists.
Chief Barima Fredua Agyemang Ababio who chaired the event, stressed the importance of fact-checking in journalism, urging Ghanaian journalists to verify information before publication to prevent misinformation and promote peace.
The event was attended by media personnel, security agencies, traditional leaders, and politicians. The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, was also present.
