The Asantehene was hopeful that students of the College would shine not only in the intellectual field but also in the moral firmament.
As part of the activities to mark its 75th Anniversary celebration, Prempeh College has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on health with the Ghana Army.
The MOU signed on September 27, 2024, allows military doctors from 2 Brigade of Infantry to collaborate with the College nurse to provide critical medical care to students in need.
Prempeh College has a long history of military collaboration; the College was established on World War II military hospital premises.
The boys-only senior high school was established in 1949 as a result of a unique collaboration between the British Colonial Government, the Kumasi Traditional Council, and two Churches – Methodist and Presbyterian.
Designed by the famous architect Maxwell Fry from Britain and his wife, Jane Drew, Prempeh College started in 1949 with 50 boys – some of them brought from Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast.
The Chief Commissioner of Ashanti, Major C. O. Butler, speaking at the opening ceremony concluded his speech with the words: “In summary, the College was expected to produce scientists and technocrats who could play vital roles in the economy of the Gold Coast”.
On his part the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Agyeman Prempeh II, described as the pillar behind the establishment of the College, outlining his expectation for Prempeh College, expressed the hope that “the students of the College would shine not only in the intellectual field but also in the moral firmament”.
