Appeal to the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate to Issue Directive on Teacher Upgrade for Degree Holders.
GES-Ashanti Region
- For several years, the process of upgrading teachers within the Ghana Education Service (GES) has faced challenges. Teachers on the rank of Principal Superintendent II are traditionally required to serve a minimum of five years before qualifying for an upgrade to Principal Superintendent, even when they hold a first degree.
- Recently, the GES issued a directive to all Regional Education Directorates to compile the details of all teachers due for upgrading. This directive includes all first-degree holders, regardless of the number of years they have served.
- In response, many Regional Directorates have issued official communiqués to their District and Municipal Education Offices, directing them to collect the relevant data from qualified teachers in line with the GES instruction.
- In the Ashanti Region, however, the process has not yet commenced in most of the districts and Municipal officers. Teachers who submitted their details at the District and Municipal levels were informed that they do not qualify until a formal letter is received from the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate. The District offices in line with the channel of communication are truthful with their pronouncement.
Based on the above, I respectfully appeal to the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate to issue the necessary directive to all District and Municipal Education Offices in the region. This will ensure consistency with the national policy and enable the inclusion of all eligible teachers in the ongoing upgrade process.
It will also boost the morale of teachers who continue to serve with dedication and professionalism.
Thank you.
Most regional education directors have issued directives to all their districts.
