“Student needs and quality education should take precedence over individual or political interests.”
Ahead of their potential inclusion in the free senior high school policy, Akenten Appiah- Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED)’s Dr Banabas Addai Amanfo, stresses the importance of private schools implementing robust quality assurance measures.
According to the senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership, Ghana should not hastily integrate private schools into the policy without conducting thorough due diligence to guarantee quality education for students.
“Private schools must be prepared to provide facilities and necessary resources, including human resources, to ensure this initiative is successful,” Dr. Amanfo stated on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, during a radio discussion.
The Senior Lecturer who supported the government’s plan to include private schools in the free Senior High School (SHS) policy, emphasized the critical need for quality assurance and a conducive learning environment.
According to Dr Amanfo, student needs and quality education should take precedence over individual or political interests, especially considering that 150,000 students are expected to be placed in private schools.
