President Nana Akufo-Addo on October 15, 2024, received high commendation from the overlord of the Dagbon Traditional Area, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, for his efforts in restoring and maintaining peace in the traditional area.
This recognition came during Akufo-Addo’s visit to the Yaa Naa at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi as part of his two-day tour of the Northern, North East, and Savanna regions. The visit was part of President Akufo-Addo’s farewell tour across Ghana, aimed at expressing gratitude to citizens for their trust and backing.
The acknowledgment underscores the President’s significant role in resolving the Traditional Area’s long-standing conflicts.
The Yaa Naa expressed his heartfelt gratitude, stating that Akufo-Addo’s name will forever be etched in their hearts for bringing peace to Dagbon.

This strategic move paved the way for the dignified funerals of our two late Yaa Naa leaders, marking a significant milestone in Dagbon’s journey towards peace and reconciliation,” the Yaa Naa said in gratitude.
Speaking at the occasion, President Akufo-Addo praised Yaa Naa Abukari Andani II’s outstanding leadership, saying his impact will endure, inspiring generations to come, and cementing his reputation as a champion of peace and security.
He highlighted Dagbon’s remarkable progress as a model for traditional institutions nationwide, demonstrating what can be achieved through unity and collaboration.
The President described Dr. Bawumia, whom he endorsed as a worthy and capable leader as knowledgeable, honest, and competent, expressing confidence in his ability to build upon his legacy.
