“The policy has been a game-changer, especially for poor communities”
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was on Monday, October 14, 2024 at Kajaji, in the Sene East Constituency, as part of his Bold Solutions Campaign tour of the Bono East Region.
At a durbar of Chiefs and people, Nana Kwame Edeabe Ntosour, Benkumhene of the Traditional Council, commended President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for the notable development projects put in place like road construction, Free Senior High School (FSHS), and the supply of machines for road construction.
“Across Ghana, people are acknowledging the remarkable progress made under your and President Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership, specifically in spreading development. Your numerous projects, including road construction, have been highly impactful. Recently, the introduction of machines to improve road conditions in our communities has been particularly appreciated, as it will greatly enhance connectivity between villages and towns. We are truly grateful for these efforts,” he said.
According to Nana Edeabe Ntosour without FSHS, many young people would have been denied access to education, pointing out that the policy has bridged the education gap and empowered girls.
He noted with gratitude to the Akufo-Addo government the impact of FSHS, stressing that it has saved many poor homes, with costs previously ranging from 4000 to 5000 Cedis per child for senior high education.
“The policy has been a game-changer, especially for poor communities, where families previously struggled to pay around 4000 to 5000 Cedis for their children’s secondary education,” Nana Edeabe Ntosour said.
He appealed to Dr. Bawumia to prioritize the completion of Agenda 111 Hospital construction in the Traditional Area in his presidency
“Our prayer is that by the grace of God, on January 7, 2025, your hand will be lifted up as President of Ghana so that you can continue the good works you are already doing,” Nana Edeabe Ntosour said.
Speaking at the durbar Dr Bawumia emphasised the transformative impact of the FSHS policy on Ghana noting that it has bridged the educational gap for underprivileged families and communities, fostered equal access to education and national development.
“The policy’s success is particularly notable, given that former President Mahama and the NDC initially deemed it impossible and strongly opposed it,” the NPP Flagbearer said.
Dr. Bawumia stressed that if the opposition’s views had prevailed, the over 5 million beneficially students and their families would have been denied a great opportunity
“As President, I will further strengthen the FSHS policy to continue to benefit all Ghanaians,” he assured.
