CAF reminded Coach Akwesi Appiah that his situation was contrary to its Statutes and FIFA Code of Ethics.
Coach Akwesi Appiah who has been doubling as Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member and Head Coach of Sudan National Football Team has been caught in a dilemma of interests.
To avoid disciplinary action from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), he has temporarily stepped down as a member of the GFA. This comes at a time when Ghana is paired against Sudan.
According to a letter dated October 6, 2024, and signed by the Director of Legal Affairs of CAF, Felix Majani, the Confederation reminded Coach Akwesi Appiah that his situation was contrary to its Statutes and FIFA Code of Ethics.
“For this reason and to preserve the integrity of the AFCON qualifiers, I urge you to take immediate action to resolve this conflict of interest, including, at a minimum temporarily stepping down from one of the two roles until the conclusion of the Competition,” CAF letter to Coach Appiah said.
CAF requested Coach Appiah to communicate proof that he has taken the necessary remedial steps to its headquarters on or before Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
In response, Coach Appiah temporarily stepped down as GFA Executive Council Member.
