The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will travel to the Republic of Seychelles next week to attend the inauguration of President-elect Patrick Herminie, marking a significant moment of royal diplomacy and pan-African goodwill.
The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for October 26, 2025, in Victoria, follows an official invitation extended to His Majesty by the government of Seychelles and confirmed by the Consulate of Seychelles in Ghana. The Asantehene will be accompanied by a high-powered delegation from the Manhyia Palace, underscoring the deep respect and esteem accorded to his leadership across the continent.
This rare royal participation in a national inauguration highlights the growing stature of traditional authority in international diplomacy, as well as Otumfuo’s widely recognised role in promoting peace, stability, and development within Africa. His invitation is viewed as a symbolic gesture of mutual respect and friendship between the Kingdom of Asante and the Republic of Seychelles.
President-elect Patrick Herminie, the leader of Seychelles’ main opposition party, secured victory in a tightly contested runoff election, garnering 52.7% of the votes against incumbent Wavel Ramkalawan’s 47.3%, according to official results released by the Electoral Commission.
Observers say the Asantehene’s attendance will further deepen people-to-people and cultural ties between the two nations, while reinforcing Africa’s shared commitment to democratic governance and continental cooperation.
His Majesty’s visit is expected to draw wide attention within diplomatic circles as a moment that blends monarchical grace with modern statecraft, symbolising Africa’s unique balance of heritage and progress.
