Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is championing a new economic vision for Ghana with his “One Region, One Duty-Free Zone” policy. This ambitious plan seeks to turn all 16 regional capitals into duty-free zones, aiming to ignite economic growth, create jobs, and foster equitable regional development across the nation.
The policy’s core lies in offering significant tax incentives and customs exemptions to businesses operating within these designated zones. By doing so, Bawumia hopes to attract foreign and domestic investment, which would, in turn, stimulate business expansion and lead to sustainable job creation.
According to the former Vice President and a presidential aspirant hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), “This initiative is a strategic move to decentralise economic activity and move away from a model that has historically concentrated opportunities in a few urban centres.”
The vision is for each regional capital to become a vibrant economic hub, ensuring that prosperity is not just a national goal but a regional reality.
