More than 650 households in Timehri North, East Bank Demerara, are set to secure legal ownership of their lands after years of uncertainty.
President Dr Irfaan Ali made the announcement on Sunday at Faith Tabernacle International New Testament Church of God, telling residents that his Government had struck a deal with the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) to protect the community from future expansion plans.
“Not only will you receive ownership, but you will be supported to move from land ownership to home ownership,” President Ali said.
Residents will soon be given Letters of Assurance, allowing them to access bank loans and mortgages. The President also directed that a childcare facility being built by CJIA for its staff be expanded to serve the wider community, while a stakeholder committee will guide further development in the area.
Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, also attended the meeting.
