The President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, together with the Vice President, H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and the Government of Ghana, has formally extended appreciation to the people of Ghana and the international community for their solidarity in the aftermath of the helicopter crash of 6 August 2025, which claimed the lives of eight citizens.
In a statement issued from the Office of the President, the government acknowledged with deep gratitude the expressions of condolence and support received from traditional leaders, the clergy, Muslim clerics, civil society organisations, the diplomatic corps, political leadership across divides, security services, service personnel, and the general public.
“We are deeply moved by the outpouring of sympathy and the unity of spirit demonstrated by our people and friends of Ghana during this difficult time,” the President noted. “Your messages, your presence at the state funeral, and the many gestures of kindness have been a source of strength to the bereaved families and the nation at large.”
Special commendation was directed to the security and emergency services, as well as corporate bodies and individuals, whose tireless efforts ensured that the departed were accorded a befitting and dignified state funeral.
Following the conclusion of the funeral rites and the burial of all eight victims, the Chief of Staff has directed that flags at all public institutions be returned to full mast with immediate effect. This, the government stated, reflects both the conclusion of the formal period of mourning and the enduring honour accorded to the departed.
The President further urged the nation to draw strength from unity as Ghana returns to the collective task of national renewal.
“As we resume the duties of #ResettingGhana and building the Ghana we desire, let us remain steadfast in prayer, extend continued support to the affected families, and uphold the values of solidarity and compassion that bind us as one people,” the statement concluded.
The Government of Ghana affirmed its continued commitment to supporting the bereaved families, while invoking the nation’s prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed.
