The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has honoured Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Running Mate for the 2024 elections, by naming a new hostel after him. This recognition highlights his transformative contributions to education in Ghana.
The naming ceremony, held on the university’s campus, celebrated Dr. Prempeh’s impactful tenure as Minister for Education and his support for infrastructure development in tertiary institutions.
Dr. Kofi Ohene Konadu, Chairman of the UPSA University Council, praised Dr. Prempeh’s significant role in advancing the university’s growth. He commended Dr. Prempeh for securing funding and overseeing the construction of the modern facility, now officially named the “Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh Hostel.”
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s tenure as Minister for Education was defined by his unwavering dedication to expanding educational access and fostering an environment conducive to learning,” stated Dr. Kofi Ohene Konadu. “This hostel is a testament to his commitment to enhancing infrastructure for tertiary education.”
The newly inaugurated facility, designed to house over 5,000 students, aims to alleviate accommodation challenges on campus while promoting academic excellence. Dr. Konadu emphasized the importance of visionary leadership in achieving such significant milestones, noting, “Your support for this project went beyond funding—it ensured that institutions like UPSA could address the increasing demand for quality education.”
On his part, UPSA Vice Chancellor, Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, commended Dr. Prempeh’s lasting impact on Ghana’s education sector, celebrating his legacy of transformative leadership.
According to Prof Amartey, “Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s contributions to Ghana’s education sector are truly remarkable. His leadership has been instrumental in implementing the Free Senior High School policy, which has opened doors to countless young Ghanaians. Furthermore, his efforts to enhance the infrastructure of educational institutions have transformed lives and paved the way for a brighter future.”
