“We shall present a petition to the Presidency at the Jubilee House”
Come Friday, October 11, 2024, residents of Accra will witness a new type of protesters taking to the streets. Catholic shepherds and their sheep will march on the streets of Accra to protest against Galamsey.
A letter inviting priests and the laity within the Accra Archdiocese to the demonstration states, “We shall engage in a Peaceful Prayer Walk, praying the Rosary which is our weapon against any adversaries.”
According to the invitation letter signed by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp., and dated October 4, 2024, the demonstrators “shall congregate at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka, to pray, go through the principal streets and end with Holy Mass at Christ the King Grotto, Cantonment.”
“We shall present a petition to the Presidency at the Jubilee House”, the pastoral invite said.
The Accra Archdiocese explained that the “Environmental Prayer Walk Against Galamsey” demonstration reflects “our civil, communal and religious commitment to our country and its ecosystem which is being destroyed.”
The Archdiocese beseeched the Blessed Lady to intercede for Ghana.
